What are the things that motivate you to stay away from your mobile phones? Open your phone's Screen Time app to see how much time you have spent on your mobile each day. Well, the result is sure to be embarrassing and frustrating for most of the people knowing that they have spent 90% of their day mindlessly scrolling on their phone. Social media detox does not means that you delete all of your social media accounts and live a life which is 100% off the internet. Social media detox is used to enhance the balance in your life. Social media is certainly a great way to stay connected with friends and family , but surely it is not the best place for your mental health and well being. If you think about deleting your social media accounts when you feel like your life is stuck and your mindless scrolling is making you angry, you can try to do a temporary social media cleanse. Here are some of the benefits I have experienced after doing a social media cleanse for one month.

Reduces stress levels
The constant notification tones on your phone do not let you stay away from your phone, and out of curiosity about what is happening you keep checking for notifications even when you know that they are not related to your work and not even important. You can avoid this problem by just simply unfollowing all these useless pages you have followed, and you can also turn off Instagram and Facebook notifications for your own benefit. These things will definitely help to reduce anxiety and neutralize the immediate dopamine surge in the brain. The advantage is that staying away from nonsense will have a positive effect on your life and thus neutralize your anxiety levels.
Stop comparing yourself with others
The most common feeling that most people relate to on social media is the fear of missing out. A simple example of this is that you saw something on someone's story or status and you immediately feel like you have to jump on the bandwagon and blindly start following the crowd. But it's just an illusion, a trigger for stress in your life. Just log out of all your social media accounts for 2-3 days and you will feel the difference it brings in your life. It will also help you to get back to your real life and improve your physical and mental health.
Improved sleep
Nowadays, the last thing everyone does before going to bed is to check their mobile phone, it's the worst time to check your phone because according to a research most people are much more emotional at that time than they are at any other time during the day and when people see some disturbing news there is a high chance that if you see a disturbing news at that time you will either not be able to sleep at all or you might sleep but you will more likely to see bad dreams. There is also a high chance that the content you consumed last night will immediately come to your mind when you wake up in the morning which can ruin your mood and it can increase your stress levels along with affecting your productivity. Unless you take control, the constant stress cycle will continue.
Increased productivity Just estimate the total amount of time you spend on social media each day and you can imagine what productive things you could have done instead of wasting your time on social media. That's the power of a simple social media detox. In the long run, your physical and mental health can become more complicated with just a small change in your habits. Once you've taken that step, the work you've been putting on hold, the family you've been neglecting, the self-care time you've been detached from can easily fit into your daily routine.
If you have ever done social media detox or you have thought about it but were not able to find the courage to do it, share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
